About Me

Melrose, MA, United States
Hi there, and thanks for visiting my Blog! How did I get started? Well, when I was pretty young, my mom taught me all the basics of sewing. It seemed to come natural to me, and by the time I was in middle school, I began to make lots of my own clothes. I did some sewing for people I knew, (including my mom!)and then bought my first sewing machine in 1986 when I decided that I would make my own wedding gown! I live in Melrose, MA with my husband and our 3 boys. When expecting our first, I started to make dolls, just in case I had a girl. I continued making and selling them as they were fun to make and customize for a special girl. I work out of my home and have had the great experience of making gowns, home fashions, dolls and doing many alterations over the years. My work has been largely word of mouth, with very little advertising. I think you will find my work unique and would like to create something special just for you!

Schedule This - part 2!

Well, I thought I had my scheduling all figured out. Then I looked at my hours again. I was offering day and evening appointments on Mondays and Thursdays, with the hopes that I would get home in the afternoon on those days. Well that isn't working out! So I have decided to offer Monday and Thursday evenings only, and Tuesday and Friday daytime appointments. THAT'S IT! Also, I am eliminating Sundays all together! I want my weekends like anybody else.

I really do think this will work out. I can't accept appointments all the time. I need time to do the work, and time off to recharge and refresh. Working with your hands and close work with your eyes, is hard work, and can be exhausting with all the little details. I will still make exceptions for people who can't make my regular hours, but that's entirely up to me to offer.

I appreciate all my customers and know they will understand, I need my sanity!

I'm Famous!

It was bound to happen

I live in a small town. People know me, and recommend me for alterations ALL THE TIME

Well, a few weeks ago I was leaving a wake, and saw someone I knew, in line, so I stayed and chatted for a while. Sidebar- I did alterations for her and her daughter the bride a few years ago. While chatting, the woman in front of them turned around and said "Hi Tamara - you may not remember me (and reintroduced herself) but you just altered a bridesmaid dress for me, and I wore it last weekend - it was perfect!" My friend heard this and agreed with the woman regarding my skills with the bridal alterations I had done for her daughter!

Last week, I was going into the grocery store when someone stopped me and said "Hi Tamara, (reintroduced herself) you hemmed a pair of jeans for me not long ago - they're perfect!"

I love what I do, and am so glad I can make smiles happen!
