About Me

My photo
Melrose, MA, United States
Hi there, and thanks for visiting my Blog! How did I get started? Well, when I was pretty young, my mom taught me all the basics of sewing. It seemed to come natural to me, and by the time I was in middle school, I began to make lots of my own clothes. I did some sewing for people I knew, (including my mom!)and then bought my first sewing machine in 1986 when I decided that I would make my own wedding gown! I live in Melrose, MA with my husband and our 3 boys. When expecting our first, I started to make dolls, just in case I had a girl. I continued making and selling them as they were fun to make and customize for a special girl. I work out of my home and have had the great experience of making gowns, home fashions, dolls and doing many alterations over the years. My work has been largely word of mouth, with very little advertising. I think you will find my work unique and would like to create something special just for you!

Securing the fit

I was contacted by email a few weeks ago from someone who asked if I could repair and/or reinforce some workout gloves that she had gotten a batch of, some with stitching coming apart at the finger gussets. I agreed to take a look and let her know if this was something I thought I could do for her. She sent me 2 pair - one which was defective and the other pair was fine, but she wanted me to reinforce the seams. I proceeded with the work and after several discussions she decided to have me only reinforce the seams of the gloves that were not defective so that she could be sure she was providing her customers with a quality product, and she could replace the defective ones that people had returned. I received a batch of 62 pair and just completed work on them.

Something old, something new....

A local girl wanted to wear her mother's wedding gown - but it didn't quite fit, and the style was not what she wanted. See how I transformed this country style gown from the '80's to a more modern style, all her own.

Pretty dresses, beautiful girls....it's Prom season of course!

I've worked on 18 prom dresses as of yesterday! WOW. My busiest prom season to date. I've had everything from simple yet sophisicated, to glitz and glamour! One of my favorites I call the "Cinderella" dress, because it has layers of tulle and reminds me of Cinderella. They are all beautiful dresses, and lucky are the girls that get to wear them! Here are just a few pictures!

Everyone should have a Fairy Godmother

Wondering what to do with last year's prom dress? How about donating it to North Shore Fairy Godmother Project and help another girl be the belle of the ball this year! Here's a link to their website for more information: http://northshorefairygodmother.org/index.html
For those in other parts of MA or another state, there are other "fairy godmother" sites that are all for the same purpose. The national site is: http://www.donatemydress.org/

www.donatemydress.org
DonateMyDress.org is a national network bringing together local dress drive organizations to help girls find out where they can donate their used dresses or get a free dress donated to them.

Brides and Gowns!

This weekend I am volunteering at the Brides Against Breast Cancer Tour of Gowns fundraiser at the Westin hotel in Waltham. Hundreds of designer, couture, new and gently-used gowns available ranging from $99 to $4,000, all styles in sizes 0-30. They have a gown to match any wedding theme or budget!
