About Me

My photo
Melrose, MA, United States
Hi there, and thanks for visiting my Blog! How did I get started? Well, when I was pretty young, my mom taught me all the basics of sewing. It seemed to come natural to me, and by the time I was in middle school, I began to make lots of my own clothes. I did some sewing for people I knew, (including my mom!)and then bought my first sewing machine in 1986 when I decided that I would make my own wedding gown! I live in Melrose, MA with my husband and our 3 boys. When expecting our first, I started to make dolls, just in case I had a girl. I continued making and selling them as they were fun to make and customize for a special girl. I work out of my home and have had the great experience of making gowns, home fashions, dolls and doing many alterations over the years. My work has been largely word of mouth, with very little advertising. I think you will find my work unique and would like to create something special just for you!

How Romantic!

A wedding in Boston on New Years Eve! I have just been asked to help with alterations on a gown for someone attending the grand (black tie optional) event. What a great city to get married in on the most splendid day of the year! She came to me with a simple yet elegant full length black satin gown. I told her I thought that the style really complimented her well. Once it is tailored to fit, she will be absolutely stunning!

Sweet 16!

I have been contacted for alterations on a Sweet 16 party dress. When I asked how she heard about me, she said it was through an online search. Once again, the power of the internet put someone in contact with me. Now that's sweet!

Time to Re-Design

I just received an email from someone who found me through the internet!!! Hey, it really works! Mostly my work over the years has resulted from word of mouth referrals, and when I do advertise, very little becomes of it. For example, a few years ago a friend got married so she asked me to do the alterations of her bridesmaids gowns. The following year 2 of her friends got married, so I did alterations on their bridal parties, including the wedding dresses.

Back to my email request. What was asked of me was if I would be interested in creating a Christening gown for her daughter, using her wedding gown for the materials. Well, how could I say no! What a wonderful idea, and a great use of the gown. We are just in the talking (emailing) stage now, but will be meeting soon to discuss how she wants it to look and what she wants to use from her gown.

I am very excited about this project and will post my progress!

New Beginnings!

Back to school time means more time to focus on my sewing.

I am a proud sponsor of a fashion show being held by Tailored for Success, Inc., called "Fashion with a Purpose" on September 18th. TFS is a local nonprofit organization "dedicated to helping economically disadvantaged women return to the workforce." For those interested in learning more about this organization, please visit: http://tailoredforsuccess.org/aboutus.aspx

I have also made the decision to expand my business, particularly in Bridal, by advertising on the New England Bridal Affair website. This is really a big step for me and I am really looking forward to seeing how it works out. My logo will be on their site for the next 9 months, and longer if it works well for me. Here's a link: http://www.newenglandbridalaffair.com/sponsors

Wish me luck!

Click on my facebook page "Fashions by Tamara" and you will see my albums. I have had fun putting my old pictures on disk and posting them for all to see.

I have created an alternative ID for facebook only called: North Shore Bridal - Custom gowns and alterations; specifically designed to draw in those interested in Bridal.

Enjoy!
